A Heuristic Inquiry: Composing Electronic Music with and for Neurofeedback (Ableton Live)
This research was carried out as part of a major project for the MMus Electronic Music Composition course at the University of West London.
This heuristic inquiry draws on information shared by co-researchers and utilises compositional practices to create interactive and adaptive compositions for neurofeedback using Ableton live.
Musical neurofeedback is a way to enhance brain activity.
You can learn to control your state of mind, which affects the brainwaves and causes a change in the music.
Resulting in synergy, to induce an intended state of arousal.
The five types of brainwaves are:
A collection of musical works created and used for training the Alpha, Theta and Delta waves can be heard here. These pieces were rendered from my own neurofeedback session and have been edited to be presented as a static listening experience for demonstration purposes.
